This course will follow all UD Composition Program Policies. But I would also like to add the following comments:

I want you to succeed in this course. To do so, you need to be in class, ready to work. If you need to miss a class for any of the reasons listed as an excused absence in the UD Faculty Handbook, please make sure I am sent the proper documentation. If you need to miss class for a minor illness, please email me. Otherwise, absences will count against your participation grade.

Same as above. I want you to succeed. If you feel you may need an accommodation to keep up with the work of this course, please have the DSS Office contact me right away. We will make sure you get the support you need.

Punctuality and Deadlines

Let’s get started on time. If we complete our work early, we can leave early.

Similarly, if you get your writing to me on time, I will return it to you quickly with my comments. But if you hand your work in late, I can promise only to get to it when I can and to offer at best a brief response.

Phones and Social Media

When we’re in class together, let’s focus on the work going on in the room. Please silence and put away your phone, and stay off social media. Here’s an incentive: If you promise to not to use your phone or social media during class, I will add 20 points to your final grade for the course. If I catch you on your phone once,  you get only 10 points. Twice, and the deal is off.

Food and Drink

Drinks are fine. Food is not.

Be professional. Proofread and edit all of your writing carefully before turning it in. I will not accept work that strikes me as hurried or careless.
